The All American Hero

What makes for a hero? Is it valor in the face of overwhelming hostile odds? Is it confronting your enemies on behalf of others, knowing the cost may be your well-being and/or your life? Is it the laying down of your life in order to save another? Is it brute strength and natural abilities? Is it standing up against bullies & would be evils you confront when your life or well-being is on the line? Is it self-sacrifice in the face of great indulgences, greed, power, and amibition? Is it simply a moment of temporary insanity or the sheer unadulterated fear you face during your hour of trial & testing? Is it capabilities, strength, knowledge, action, and a working capacity to utilize such traits in the moment they are most needed, despite the cost? Is it honor, loyalty, integrity, dedication, conviction, and action at the moment it is most needed despite the odds? Is it the actions you do or don't do at the right moment? Is it dedication to higher ideals and a call to action? Or is it possibly the quiet convictions you hold most dear and act upon when required and are convicted that your actions are necessary to forestall harm?... It has been often said that.."For evil to prosper, all that is necessary is for good men to remain silent"! What you think of within the privacy of your own mind, and either act upon, or perhaps choose to restrain yourself and don't act, speak volumes of who you are, and what makes for a noble & honorable character, or the lack thereof. All of mankind have it within themselves to be heroes, only within those special moments may you discover both who and what you are.
